Duomo History VR Experience

Making visible and understandable the centuries-long constructive evolution and the immense sculptural apparatus of the Cathedral, right at the heart of the monumental space. The project moves beyond the limits of traditional museum experience, translating the accuracy of historical sources into dynamic three-dimensional models that show the main stages of the structure's growth and the decorative complexity that characterises its Gothic architecture.

A multimedia experience delivered as a Location-Based Experience (LBE), made up of a single continuous 11-minute virtual reality (VR) piece. Designed to be experienced inside the Cathedral, the installation integrates perfectly with the self-guided visit, using immersive technology to overlay the story of the past onto the magnificence of the real monument.

Integration with the self-guided visit: Experiencing it inside the Duomo creates an immediate dialogue between the real physical space and its digital historical evolution, enriching visitors’ personal itinerary with a clear and effective architectural key to interpretation.
High-impact visual synthesis: The seamless narrative flow condenses centuries of history and highlights the most significant construction phases from 1386 to the present day, letting the public get a virtual close-up of the rich ornamental and sculptural heritage that is difficult to see with the naked eye.
Flexibility and customisation: The add-on format, applicable to any Cathedral entry ticket, turns virtual reality into a natural and customisable extension of the visit, meeting the needs of an international audience.
